What Are Journaling Prompts?

Simply, journaling prompts are questions or statements that guide you to start journaling.  It is like a mama rhino goading her baby along by the horn.  However, these simple journaling prompts won’t hurt, they will inspire and incite you to write your best thoughts. 

What Are Good Journal Prompts?

A good journal prompt will stimulate your brain to action.  It will give you something to ponder and eventually lead you to come to these ideas without the use of prompts.  However, as a journaling beginner, you may need prompts to get going and that’s ok.

  • Be in the present.  Presently, Currently, Right now, and name everything about you lately.
  • Write about a memory
  • Your favorite people
  • How do you feel?  The real and full truth.  Exhaust the topic, how do you feel about things, people, situations, etc.?
  • When you are down, what is something that picks you up?
  • What’s your favorite book?
  • What’s your favorite song?
  • What’s your favorite season and why?
  • Tell everything about your favorite music group or singer.
  • What is your view about religion?
  • What is your view on God?
  • Gratitude List
  • Describe your last dream.  What do you think it means?
  • What would you like to get better at?
  • What’s something you’re really proud of?
  • What do you like to do in your free time?

This might be the end of my journaling for beginners series.  I’ve given you a good foundation for journaling ideas.  And frankly, if after reading and doing what’s in all of those posts, this list of unique journaling prompts doesn’t get you stirred up, then nothing will.
